Marketing maths for trades, on paper

Services: when you want the worksheets filled in for you

Each paid service matches one of the free tools. If the worksheet raised a question you cannot answer from your own records, the matching service is where we answer it with you, using your real numbers.

The free tools on this site will take most owners a long way. The services start where the paper runs out: when you have no tracking to fill in the "source" column, when the numbers point to a change you are nervous about making, or when you simply do not have three evenings to spend with a stack of invoices. Each service is built around one worksheet, so you always know what you are paying for.

  • Marketing ROI review

We fill in the ROI worksheet with your real invoices and ad bills, then tell you which spend is earning its keep.

  • Ad budget planning and paid search

A monthly ad budget worked backwards from the jobs you want, then run and reported against that plan.

  • Job value and lead-cost analysis

Your average job value, margin and customer value by job type, so you know what a lead is worth paying for.

  • Local SEO checklist audit

Every line of the local SEO checklist scored for your business, with the fixes ranked by how much work they bring in.

  • Call and lead tracking setup

The tracking that puts real numbers in every worksheet: calls, texts and emails tied to the source that sent them.

How to choose: start from the blank you cannot fill

The quickest way to pick a service is to look at your half-finished worksheet and find the first row you could not fill in. That row tells you what is missing.

If you got stuck on… The missing piece is Start with
"Where did this job come from?" Source tracking Call and lead tracking setup
"Gross profit per job" Job costing by type Job value and lead-cost analysis
"Return by channel" Matching spend to booked work Marketing ROI review
"Leads needed next month" A booking rate and a cost per lead you trust Ad budget planning
More than three "no" answers on the SEO checklist A prioritised fix list Local SEO checklist audit

If you could not start any worksheet, begin with tracking. Every other service gives a weaker answer without it.

Marketing ROI review

This is the ROI worksheet done with your real books. We match every marketing cost from the past 12 months, including ads, directories, agency fees, wraps and sponsorships, against the jobs each one actually produced and the gross profit on those jobs. You get a one-page answer: which channels returned money, which broke even and which lost it.

It suits owners spending at least a few thousand dollars a year on marketing who have never seen it laid out this way. Read the ROI review page.

The ad budget worksheet works backwards from a job target to a spend figure. This service does that for each month of your year, sets the campaigns up to match, and then reports against the plan rather than against vague "impressions." When the season turns, the budget moves with it.

It suits owners who already run Google Ads or Local Services Ads and suspect the spend is either too timid in peak months or wasted in slow ones. Read the ad budget page.

Job value and lead-cost analysis

This is the foundation. We sort your invoices by job type, work out revenue and gross profit for each, and calculate how much you can afford to pay to win one of each kind. A water heater swap and a full repipe should not share one "cost per lead" target, and this analysis shows why in dollars.

It suits owners with a mix of small and large jobs, or anyone about to raise prices or chase a new kind of work. Read the job value page.

Local SEO checklist audit

Our local SEO checklist has 40 lines you can tick yourself. The audit scores every one for your business, compares you with the three competitors who show up most in your area, and ranks the fixes by likely effect, so the first afternoon of work goes on the change that matters most.

It suits owners whose map listing barely shows up, or who rank well in one town and not at all in the next. Read the SEO audit page.

Call and lead tracking setup

Tracking numbers on your ads and website, a record of every call, text and email, and a simple weekly tally of which ones became booked jobs. This is the plumbing behind every worksheet. Once it exists, filling in the ROI and budget sheets takes minutes, not guesses.

It suits almost everyone. Most trades businesses we talk to cannot say where last month's jobs came from. Read the tracking page.

What none of the services include

We keep the line clear. Trades.Tools markets and advises trades businesses; it does not do trade work. We do not install, repair, inspect or service anything, we do not give code, safety or licensing advice, and we do not do your bookkeeping or tax. When a worksheet needs a number only your accountant has, such as a true labour burden, we will tell you to ask them.

To see what the services cost through Trades.Agency, go to pricing. To talk one through, get in touch by call, text or email.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to buy a service to use the worksheets?

No. The worksheets are complete and free. The services exist for owners who would rather hand over their records and get the answer back, or who need tracking set up before the sheets can be filled in honestly.

Which service do most owners start with?

Usually the ROI review, because it shows which existing spend is working before anything new is bought. If there is no tracking at all, lead tracking setup has to come first.

Are the services part of a monthly plan?

They are delivered through Trades.Agency's monthly plans, which are month-to-month with 30 days' notice to cancel. The pricing page lists the current plans and what drives the cost.

Will you touch my equipment, jobs or crews?

No. We are a marketing and business consulting service, not a contractor. Our work stays in your ad accounts, website, Google profile, tracking and reports.
